The Role of Media Culture in the Formation of Students' Media Literacy

Abstract

In today’s information society, media culture and media literacy have become essential competencies. This article explores the significance of media culture in shaping media literacy among students. The advancement of media literacy and media culture plays a key role in enhancing students’ abilities to critically engage with media successful adaptation of young people, including students, to the modern information society and making informed decisions. The relevance of this work is a review of the basics in developing media literacy, analyze the literature on this topic and provide examples of practical tasks for students that aid in the enhancement of their media culture and media literacy through independent work. The study included a survey of university students using qualitative, quantitative and test methods.It is important to help students develop critical media literacy, which is an important skill in today's information society. Media literacy gives students the opportunity to critically evaluate media messages, improve the skills of analysis and synthesis of information, and also learn to effectively use various media formats. These skills are of practical importance for explaining the correct use of language and communication when creating new ideas. Studies have shown that media literacy allows students to recognize disinformation, fake news and manipulation in language lessons, learn to identify them and distinguish truth from reality. Thus, the development of media literacy skills is an important tool for improving the practical, professional and research skills of students in the conditions of the modern information society.
